    Greetings everyone!

My name is Kiante. I have been knitting for a little over a year. Ive done scarves, two hat, and some arm warmers. I am right now looking for Calorimetry hair thing. I like knitting a TON. So much so that my friend Sparr made my icon. I love it. Feel free to take it and enjoy. :D

    Can anyone ID this knit?
    Hi all!

I'm currently in a circular-scarf knitting fever, when I came across this image a few days ago I knew I had to make this little baby and wrap it around my big old head and call my own.

However, I can't make out what knit this could be; it almost looked . . horrors . . . . crocheted???

Can anyone shed a little light?

Okay, I've searched Ravelry, and the web, and I'm just not liking what I'm finding tonight.  So I'm taking a poll...what does everyone think I should make with this yarn that I bought tonight?  (I got five balls of this really pretty red shade that I'll probably never wear, to be perfectly honest, because it was on sale for $1 a ball and I had $5 left to my name and somehow yarn outweighed dinner.)  Yarn always outweighs dinner.

So here are the options, as I've narrowed them down a bit:
    Seafoam Shawl http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/seafoam-shawl-2#
    Mia Shrug http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/mia-shrug
    Luna Moth Shawl http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/luna-moth-shawl
    Kiri http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/kiri
    Branching Out http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/branching-out
    Pink Fuzzy Wrap http://www.ravelry.com/projects/lipizzanknitter/victorian-ruby

I know, I should be an independent knitter and make my own choices, but if you check out my queue you'll see that I have a lot of things planned that I'm going to make, when I get around to it, and a stash that's making me insane, and I can't narrow it down and actually start working on any one thing.  So right now I have a million things on my needles, a million things waiting to go on needles and a million more balls of yarn waiting to cast on. We'll see what happens.

    Hey crafty ladies!

I was wondering if any of you have had any experience with felting BUT not using a washing machine. I know that that is really the best way to felt, but I live in nyc and do not own a washing machine. It seems all laundromats' have the kind of machine with a front opening as oppose to a top opening. I know I can't be the only one with this problem. Any of you gals (or guys) have any tips for stove top felting? or perhaps there is another method I am not aware of.
    Any help is appreciated! Thanks!

    What a week!
After finishing my FIRST EVER original sweater design for my grandmother, I began crocheting a "sock monkey" hat and matching afghan for a friend's upcoming baby shower. Have a look:

Oh, and by the way, what kind of a stitch is this?

A friend of mine wore a beautiful cardigan from Urban Outfitters and I'd really like to replicate it if I can only figure out this one stitch! Help is infinitely appreciated, to the nth power!!

    Hey, knitters,

Koi knittin, the knitting/craft zine, has been really fun to write and put together, and now we've got it all dolled up and laser-printed. People who supported us on the 'rough draft' will get the sleeker, more grown-up version in the mail soon.

Two of our LYS's are carrying the zine, and we're ready for more! Can anybody recommend a good LYS that would enjoy an eco-conscious/DIY/family-friendly/jam-packed-full-o'knitting-patterns-and-craft-projects magazine?

If your recommendation picks us up, we'll totally give you a free subscription. ;)

    Happy knitting,
    Jaala

    Koi Knitting Debut
Woohoo! Erika and I tag-teamed the project, and we've got Koi Knitting zines printed and almost ready to go!

Each issue is 36 pages long, 8x11, with different kinds of yarn for the hand-sewn binding. Erika attached beads to the long yarn tails so that you can use them as a bookmark to help find your favorite pattern. The issue contains: five knitting patterns, three craft projects, a Fair Isle graph, two featured fiber artists, articles, book reviews, recipes, comics and a Knitter's Stretch. We lovingly hand-paste the color pictures into each zine.

All proceeds benefit Kiva, which gives microloans to people in economically depressed areas, helping them gain financial stability.

Right now, we have thirty copies printed, ready for the first people who order! Expect them to be mailed in the next couple of weeks as each one is individually finished. They're five dollars, and you can use paypal--send it to erika@luhala.com. Just write 'Koi' in your subject line, and make sure to give us your snail mail address!
If you prefer to send a check, shoot an email to koiknitting@yahoo.com, and we'll tell you the secret Koi lair address.

    Hey, knitters!
My friend and I are putting together a knitting zine and are looking for lovely patterns. The mag is going to be called Koi Knitting, knitting and crafts with a socially-responsible bent. We're going to have features on home-based fiber businesses, fair-trade yarns, funny knitting stories, plus, of course craft and knitting patterns. It'll most likely be full-page, hand-bound with hand-pasted color pictures. If we use your work, you keep the rights, and get a free zine!
Any of you out there made up anything? We'd love to see it.... (the deadline is Sept. 2).
    Please email us @ koiknitting@yahoo.com.
    xoxo Jaala

    HELP!
I have just come to the sad, sad realization that the yarn I am using to work on Lucky from Stitch n' Bitch nation is discontinued. I am only done with the back and the right front side and nearing completion on the left front. I still have the two sleeves, the neckband, and the seaming to finish.

If anyone anywhere has any skeins of this and wants to trade or sell them, please please please please contact me asap please. I can send check, money order, or paypal and will cover all shipping charges as well as pay for the yarn. The color is #7450-Violet, dye lot of no importance.

Any and all help is greatly appreciated!!

I wanted to start getting into Intarsia and like start making grids and everything. I've googled to no ends and can't find a good grid.

Also, does anyone know any good websites with some Feminist Knits.

And last, I want to felt my cardigan I'm making and my friend is all like "You can't felt worst weighted yarn!@#$"....So, my question is, what type of yarn can you felt? What is the best to felt with?

    Thank you <3

    Newbie needs clarification
Hi! I've been knitting (self-taught) for over two years. I've made enough scarves to smother someone and have also made some prayer shawls. I'm wanting to branch out and attempt my first sweater. I found a pattern which seems relatively easy. However, I've one hang-up. It has an i-cord which is how the sweater (kind of an empire waist fit) closes. I'm only confused because I don't understand how the i-cord actually ends up looking. Does it go "through" the sweater like a drawstring or is it attached at the edges? Or could it be either one?

    Thanks in advance for explanation!

Hey, knitters--if you, like me, have been wandering around lost because you've never seen thousands of free Scandinavian knitting patterns in one place, then come here! Hither!
I am so excited about this that I nearly burnt out my printer yesterday downloading free ski sweater, elf hat, lacy scarf and fair-isle wristwarmer patterns.

    Intro Post and Gloves
Hi all. New to this comm, but not to knitting or LJ. I live in NYC, and I've been knitting seriously for six years and crocheting for twenty of my twenty-eight years.

Whilst watching Deadwood I completed these gloves:

Most of the knitting happened on my Christmas travels, though. Long car rides and plane flights are good for something, and this was a nice portable project.

Bigger pictures under the cut )

The pattern is from The Knitter's Handy Book of Patterns: Basic Designs in Multiple Sizes & Gauges, which every serious knitter should own. I did them in Koigu KPPPM on size 1 double pointed needles, and added a staggered cable cuff. Next time I'll try putting cables on the hand and fingers as well. I've had as much fun as I'm going to have experimenting with the cuff, and gloves are so fussy to knit that I might as well add some more details. I bought a book of fair isle glove patters which might be fun. I like to have mindless knitting when doing a sweater, which is why the Fair Isle sweater I started three years ago is still only three inches long, but maybe I could manage gloves.

    Yarn Online
Hi all. I joined quite awhile ago but haven't been active (online or in knitting) due to a move.

Anyway, I'm getting back into knitting. We love our new town except for the lack of craft stores. :(

Could you guys please share your favorite yarn sites with me. Do you have a favorite for each category of fiber (plant/animal/synthetic)?

I've been searching but I really want GOOD yarns at good prices and thought I should ask before just risking it on ebay.

    Thanks all!

    Beginner knitter.
    Hi kittens!

I'm Heather from NC and I just started knitting. I can do scarfs and now I want to learn something new, so I am taking a class this week but I have to bring a pattern. I'd like to learn to do hats, but I suppose it needs to be a simple hat. Do you guys have any suggestions on patterns for a beginner like myself?

    Thank you muchly.
